Deep Emotional Release - Let it GO!

Updated: Mar 18, 2025

A deep emotional release experience - a catharsis is a profound moment when suppressed emotions that have been stored in the body and subconscious mind are brought to the surface and expressed, leading to a sense of relief, lightness, and freedom. These emotions may include anger, sadness, grief, fear, or even joy, which were previously unprocessed or repressed due to life circumstances, trauma, or societal conditioning.

This experience is often part of a healing journey, triggered by intentional practices such as Spinal Flow, Breathwork, Meditation, Somatic therapy, Energy healing, or other modalities designed to access and release trapped emotional energy. My work is centered around finding and releasing suppressed emotions, stored as blockages in your physical body.

What Happens During an Emotional Release?

  1. The Body Speaks

    • Emotions that were previously "stuck" in the body may surface through physical sensations, such as warmth, tingling, or tension being released.

    • Tears, shaking, trembling, or spontaneous movements may occur as the body releases stored energy.

  2. A Surge of Emotions

    • You may feel a flood of emotions—grief, anger, sadness, or even relief and joy—as unprocessed feelings are expressed.

    • These emotions may feel intense but are part of the body's natural way of releasing what it no longer needs to hold.

  3. Catharsis

    • Emotional release often feels like a "cleansing" process, where pent-up energy is discharged, leaving space for clarity and calm.

    • People commonly describe this experience as a "weight being lifted off their shoulders."

  4. Mental Clarity

    • As the emotional energy is released, you might gain insights or clarity about past experiences, patterns, or beliefs that were tied to the emotions.

What Triggers an Emotional Release?

  1. Healing Modalities

    • Practices like Spinal Flow and Breathwork are somatic experiences, that access and release deeply stored emotions. Emotional Release session, is an important part of my courses and retreats.

  2. Body Awareness Practices

    • Yoga, meditation, or mindful movement can bring attention to areas in the body where tension and emotions are held.

  3. Deep Vulnerability

    • Sharing your truth, confronting fears, or expressing emotions in a safe space can trigger release.

  4. Music, Sound, or Touch

    • Certain sounds, vibrations, or physical sensations (like massage) can unlock and release emotional energy.

  5. Triggers or Memories

    • Recalling a past event or being in a situation that mirrors a past experience can unlock suppressed emotions.

Why Do We Store Emotions in the Body?

  • When we experience overwhelming or distressing emotions, the body often "stores" these feelings in muscles, tissues, or the nervous system if they are not fully processed.

  • This happens because the mind and body prioritize survival, and processing emotions may feel secondary in moments of acute stress.

  • Over time, these unprocessed emotions can manifest as physical tension, pain, or emotional patterns (like avoidance or reactivity).

Signs That You’re Experiencing an Emotional Release

  • Crying or sobbing

  • Spontaneous laughter or giggles.

  • Trembling, shaking, or shivering.

  • Yawning, sighing, or taking deep belly breaths.

  • Tingling or warmth in specific parts of the body.

  • Feeling a surge of anger or sadness that dissipates quickly.

After the Release

Once the emotions are released, people often report feeling:

  1. Lightness: A physical and emotional sense of relief, as if a burden has been lifted.

  2. Inner Peace: A quiet calmness or stillness within, as emotional tension is no longer held in the body.

  3. Energized: The body may feel revitalized as stuck energy begins to flow freely.

  4. Emotional Vulnerability: You may feel tender or raw for a short time as your nervous system integrates the experience.

How to Support Yourself During and After Emotional Release

  1. Breathe: Stay connected to your breath to regulate your nervous system as emotions surface.

  2. Allow the Process: Let the emotions flow without judgment or suppression. Remind yourself that it’s safe to feel.

  3. Rest: Give yourself time to recover and integrate the release. You may feel tired afterward as your body recalibrates.

  4. Hydrate and Nourish: Drink water and eat grounding foods to support your body.

  5. Journal: Write down what you felt or experienced to process the insights that arose.

  6. Seek Support: If the release feels overwhelming, reach out to a trusted friend, therapist, or healing practitioner.

Benefits of Emotional Release

  • Mental Clarity: Letting go of old emotions creates space for new perspectives and ideas.

  • Improved Relationships: You may find it easier to connect with others, as unresolved emotional baggage is released.

  • Physical Healing: Chronic pain, tension, or fatigue often improves as emotional blockages are resolved.

  • Emotional Freedom: Releasing stored emotions can lead to greater resilience, self-awareness, and peace.

Key Takeaway

An emotional release experience is a powerful way of clearing the emotional "clutter" we carry within. It may feel intense in the moment, but it’s a natural and healing process that allows you to reclaim your emotional freedom, vitality, and inner peace. It’s your body and mind’s way of resetting, bringing you closer to your authentic self. 🌿
